Lake Annette - Paradise Valley. It's hard to get into Lake Annette via the Moraine Lake Road because of traffic in the Lake Louise area. On a busy summer day, be sure to tell the traffic person at the Moraine Lake Road intersection that you are going to the trailhead for Paradise Valley. You shouldn't have any trouble being let through The Skoki Valley. The Skoki Valley region east of Lake Louise offers fewer day-hikes; to enjoy it you'll need a tent to stay overnight at any of the six backcountry campgrounds. The trailhead begins off a gravel road that runs behind the Lake Louise Ski Area, off Hwy-1. Many people hike out-and-back to Boulder Pass (2345m), an 8.6km trek and 640m ascent from the trailhead (6-7hr round trip) Looks like there's a campground at Paradise Valley (Pa10 in the Banff Backcountry brochure). Sentinel Pass via Larch valley is a wonderful hike that is pretty much accessible to anyone who is in okay shape. Located in Banff National Park the trail starts at Moraine Lake. The hike is roughly 7 miles round trip with an altitude climb of 2400 feet (to 8600 feet at peak) the colors of Canada <3. Over the course of the road trip, expect to drive approximately 12 hours (one way) and around 600 miles (or 950 km - and yes, they use km in Canada!). In order to drive from Vancouver to Banff in a reasonable amount of time and still do all the things (besides just drive), you'll want to allocate at least a week for. The best bet for finding a campsite outside the Banff Townsite area, is to camp at the Lake Louise (trailer) or Lake Louise Tent Campground because it is 100% reservable and offers safe camping for tenters inside an electric fence to keep out bears. While the campgrounds at Louise can be busy and crowded, at least you'll be close to awesome. Tunnel Mountain is a go-to Banff campground. With 188 campsites in Village II open year round with running water, electrical hookups, and with way more space than in the summer months, you know they're always going to have a campsite for you. So I'm looking to do a hiking/camping trip to Banff National Park. I understand this is more touristy than Jasper, but so far I've gathered Banff is much easier to get to and cuts travel time down a lot, which is why I feel like Banff is the way to go.
